Liverpool Injury Update: Expected Return Dates for Ekitike, Bradley, Chiesa and Leoni Revealed
Liverpool head into the international break in positive form, but Andoni Iraola is still waiting for several important players to recover from their respective injuries.
The Reds secured a 1-0 victory over Bournemouth, thanks to Alexander Isak’s goal, extending their unbeaten run to seven matches across all competitions. Liverpool will now look forward to their upcoming fixtures, with several injury concerns still to be monitored.
Hugo Ekitike – Expected Return: January 2027
Hugo Ekitike remains Liverpool’s longest-term injury absentee after suffering an Achilles rupture against Paris Saint-Germain in April. The injury ruled him out of the final stages of last season and the beginning of the current campaign.
His recovery is progressing, with the striker sharing encouraging rehabilitation updates, including videos of himself working with the ball indoors. Liverpool have also included him in their Champions League squad.
Iraola has suggested that Ekitike could potentially contribute in January, although the forward still has considerable rehabilitation work ahead of him.
Conor Bradley – Expected Return: November or December
Conor Bradley continues to recover from a serious left knee injury sustained against Arsenal in January. The problem involved bone and ligament damage and required surgery.
The Northern Ireland international has started working with the ball but is still training individually rather than participating in full team sessions.
Iraola has warned that Bradley still has a significant amount of recovery work to complete. He is also believed to be slightly behind Giovanni Leoni in his rehabilitation progress.
Federico Chiesa – Expected Return: October 11 vs Manchester City
Federico Chiesa has yet to make a competitive appearance under Iraola after suffering a muscular problem in his back during pre-season.
The Italian forward has missed all seven of Liverpool’s matches so far, including the recent victory over Bournemouth.
The international break could provide valuable time for him to recover, with Liverpool hopeful that he will be available for the clash against Manchester City.
Giovanni Leoni – Expected Return: November
Giovanni Leoni suffered a devastating setback when he tore his left anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during his Anfield debut against Southampton in the Carabao Cup.
He was initially expected to spend approximately a year on the sidelines. However, his rehabilitation has reportedly progressed well, and he is believed to be ahead of Bradley in his recovery.
A return in October or November has been discussed as a possibility, although Liverpool are unlikely to take unnecessary risks with the young defender’s fitness.
Joe Gomez Provides Positive Injury News
There is also encouraging news regarding Joe Gomez, who returned to action against Bournemouth after recovering from a muscular problem.
The defender completed the match without experiencing any reported complications, providing a boost to Liverpool’s defensive options.
With no major new injury concerns emerging from the Bournemouth game, Liverpool will hope to have more players available as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures.
