Harvey Elliott’s difficult spell at Valencia has taken another turn for the worse after the Liverpool loanee was sent off in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Villarreal.

The 23-year-old received two quick yellow cards after coming on as a substitute, leaving Valencia manager Javier Aguirre furious. Aguirre called the dismissal “absurd” and “ridiculous,” admitting it disrupted his side’s chances of securing a crucial victory.

Elliott has struggled for regular game time this season, making just six appearances without a goal or assist as he continues to search for his best form.
