Florian Wirtz’s Liverpool future takes another twist

Florian Wirtz’s future at Liverpool has become a talking point again, with reports linking the German midfielder with a possible return to the Bundesliga and renewed interest from Bayern Munich. However, the latest information suggests that Bayern are not currently preparing an active bid for him.

Wirtz joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in 2025 for a deal worth around £100 million initially, potentially rising to £116 million with bonuses. He arrived with major expectations after establishing himself as one of Germany’s leading young attacking midfielders.

His adaptation to Liverpool has been more difficult than expected. Reports say he has struggled to consistently produce the same level of influence he showed in Germany. In his first Liverpool season, he recorded 15 goal contributions in 49 appearances, while this season he has reportedly registered just one assist in his first five competitive appearances.

Liverpool still want Wirtz

Despite the speculation, Liverpool are not currently looking to sell Wirtz. The club reportedly wants to give him more time to adapt and for manager Andoni Iraola to find the role that brings out his best qualities.

The situation is complicated by Bayern Munich’s longstanding admiration for Wirtz. Bayern were one of the clubs interested in him before Liverpool won the race for his signature.

However, German journalist Christian Falk has pushed back against reports that Bayern are currently actively preparing a move. That means there is a difference between Bayern continuing to monitor Wirtz and actually making a concrete January transfer approach.

Could Bayern return for him?

The possibility cannot completely be ruled out. Wirtz already knows German football and Bayern were interested in him before his move to Liverpool.

Another recent report claimed Liverpool are expecting potential January interest in Wirtz but would be reluctant to accept an offer.

There have even been reports discussing a possible Wirtz–Michael Olise swap, although that remains speculation rather than a confirmed transfer plan.

What this means

There is currently no confirmed Bayern bid for Wirtz. The story is essentially about growing speculation surrounding his future because of his difficult start at Liverpool, while Liverpool remain committed to giving their expensive signing an opportunity to succeed.

So, for your Facebook page, the key angle is:

Bayern Munich are monitoring Florian Wirtz, but reports indicate they are NOT currently preparing a move. Liverpool still want to keep the German midfielder and hope he can rediscover his best form at Anfield.
