Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta insists his conscience is clear following Manchester City’s guilty verdict over alleged financial rule breaches.

Arteta, who worked as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at City for three years before joining Arsenal in 2019, urged everyone to respect the ongoing legal process.

Asked whether his conscience was clear, the Spaniard replied, “Yes,” but stressed that he would only speak openly about his feelings once the case had been resolved.

City have appealed the independent commission’s findings, which ruled the club guilty of all but one of the 115 alleged financial breaches covering 2009 to 2018.

Arteta also reaffirmed his belief that the Premier League remains the best league in the world, refusing to comment on whether the verdict had damaged its reputation or affected his memories of working at the Etihad.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are focused on their own title ambitions, with Arteta insisting that whatever happens with City’s case is beyond his control.
