BBC pundit Chris Sutton has backed Manchester City to beat Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, predicting Erling Haaland will score the winning goal.
Despite the expected hostile atmosphere following City’s financial charges verdict, Sutton believes the visitors will use the criticism to fuel a siege mentality.
He also feels Liverpool remain a work in progress under Andoni Iraola and have yet to convince him this season. Sutton expects City to handle the pressure and secure all three points, with Haaland potentially celebrating the decisive goal.
Liverpool must remain composed and avoid being distracted by the emotions surrounding the occasion. Although Anfield could provide a huge boost, City’s quality makes them dangerous opponents.
Gary Neville has also expressed doubts about Liverpool, admitting he is unsure whether Iraola’s side can dominate City as convincingly as Jürgen Klopp’s team might have done.
Victory would represent a significant statement for Iraola’s Liverpool, while defeat would be a setback in a crucial Premier League encounter.
