Liverpool bounced back spectacularly from their disappointing defeat to Manchester City, thrashing Austrian side LASK 6-3 on Wednesday night to maintain their perfect record in this season’s Champions League.
Andoni Iraola’s decision to rotate his squad paid off handsomely, with several players stepping up to deliver impressive performances. While Bradley Barcola grabbed the headlines with a stunning hat-trick, another young Liverpool talent emerged as a major talking point.
BARCOLA FINALLY SHOWS WHY LIVERPOOL SPENT £123M!
Since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain in a blockbuster summer transfer, Bradley Barcola had yet to consistently demonstrate his quality in the Premier League.
However, his performance against LASK was a timely reminder of what he can offer.
The French forward scored three goals in a devastating attacking display, helping Liverpool establish control of the contest. He also completed five successful dribbles, the highest tally among Liverpool’s senior players, and recorded 19 touches inside the opposition’s penalty area.
Barcola completed 92% of his passes and created two opportunities for his teammates, underlining his influence beyond his goals.
Ronald Araújo also found the net before the break, alongside Barcola’s first two strikes, giving Liverpool a commanding advantage at half-time.
Jeremie Frimpong extended the lead shortly after the restart, before LASK attempted to fight back through Robert Ljubicic. Barcola then completed his hat-trick, while Lewis Koumas added another goal for Liverpool. Florian Heckler scored twice late on, but the Reds still secured an emphatic victory.
👀 TREY NYONI: LIVERPOOL’S NEXT FABINHO?
Although Barcola was undoubtedly the standout attacking performer, Trey Nyoni also delivered a performance that deserves serious attention.
The young academy graduate was handed just his second start of the campaign and played 85 minutes in Liverpool’s impressive European victory.
Nyoni dictated the tempo in midfield, completing an outstanding 83 passes — more than any other player on either team. He also completed 92% of his passes and delivered 10 balls into the final third, helping Liverpool launch attacks and create scoring opportunities.
His contribution wasn’t limited to possession. The teenager won every aerial duel he contested, registered two tackles and made four ball recoveries.
His commanding display even prompted an analyst to draw comparisons with former Liverpool midfield powerhouse Fabinho.
That is enormous praise for a young player, considering Fabinho played a crucial role in Liverpool’s success during his time at Anfield, winning the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.
Nyoni still has a long way to go before reaching those heights, but his performance against LASK offered encouraging signs of his potential.
🔴 WHAT THIS MEANS FOR LIVERPOOL
Barcola has finally delivered the kind of explosive performance Liverpool supporters were waiting for, while Nyoni has strengthened his case for more opportunities in the first team.
With Kostas Tsimikas also providing two assists, Iraola will be pleased to see several squad members taking their chances.
The challenge now is consistency. If Barcola can reproduce this form in domestic competitions and Nyoni continues developing at this rate, Liverpool could have two exciting young talents capable of making a significant impact.
Liverpool fans, be honest: could Trey Nyoni become the club’s next Fabinho, and has Barcola finally announced himself as a Liverpool superstar? 👀🔴
