Liverpool are set for an emotional reunion with former fan favourite Dirk Kuyt after Fenerbahce appointed him interim manager following Ismail Kartal’s departure.
Kuyt, who spent six years at Anfield, made 285 appearances and scored 71 goals, becoming a beloved figure thanks to his work rate, commitment and big-game performances, including his famous hat-trick against Manchester United.
Now, he could face Liverpool from the opposite dugout when Andoni Iraola’s side visit Istanbul for their Champions League clash on November 4.
Kuyt will have little time to prepare, but his appointment could give Fenerbahce a fresh boost. Liverpool will need to stay focused and avoid allowing the emotional reunion to overshadow their Champions League ambitions.
It promises to be a special night for Kuyt—and an intriguing challenge for the Reds.
