Forget Koumas: Liverpool Will Unleash ‘Special’ Teenager After Gakpo Injury Blow

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has suffered a major blow after Cody Gakpo was ruled out for “several weeks” with an injury picked up on international duty with the Netherlands.

The 27-year-old was forced off during the 2-1 win over Serbia and has returned to Liverpool for further assessment. Gakpo’s absence is a significant setback after his impressive start to the season, with two goals and four assists in six appearances.

His injury could open the door for young attackers such as Lewis Koumas and Rio Ngumoha to take on bigger roles. Ngumoha, in particular, could finally get more opportunities on his preferred left wing, where Gakpo has been one of Iraola’s main options.

The 18-year-old has already made five appearances this season and will now have a huge chance to prove he deserves more regular minutes under Iraola.
