Cody Gakpo may now have even more reason to be relieved that his proposed move from Liverpool to Manchester City collapsed.
The Dutchman was close to leaving Liverpool after City submitted an £80m bid, but the Reds blocked the transfer and ultimately kept him at Anfield. Gakpo has since enjoyed an excellent start under Andoni Iraola, recording two goals and four assists in his first six appearances.
City have now been found guilty of 114 of 115 financial-rule charges, with possible points deductions or even relegation still hanging over the club.
With Gakpo also currently recovering from an ankle injury, the forward could miss Liverpool’s clash with City on October 11 — but in hindsight, staying at Anfield may prove to have been a very fortunate outcome.
