Liverpool have received a major boost, with talented centre-back Giovanni Leoni reportedly expected to return from his ACL injury later this month.
The 19-year-old has made just one competitive appearance since joining from Parma in 2025, suffering the serious injury on his Liverpool debut.
According to The Athletic, Leoni is now closing in on a comeback, with his return potentially strengthening Liverpool’s defensive options alongside Jeremy Jacquet and Ronald Araujo.
Liverpool had initially planned to gradually introduce Leoni as a potential long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk.
Despite his lengthy absence, the Italian has reportedly impressed staff with his mentality, professionalism and commitment to learning more about the club and improving his English.
If Leoni can quickly rediscover his best form, his return could feel like a major new addition for Liverpool’s defence.
