Liverpool youngster Rio Ngumoha has revealed the valuable advice Mohamed Salah gave him before the Egyptian forward left Anfield.

Ngumoha, who is now 18, says Salah was the Liverpool player he learned the most from during his early development. The teenager explained that Salah regularly spoke to him about what he needed to improve if he wanted to reach the highest level of football.

According to Ngumoha, Salah told him that having ability alone is not enough for a top attacker. He encouraged the youngster to improve his goals and assists and pay close attention to his numbers.

Ngumoha recalled being amazed when Salah began giving him advice because he had grown up watching the Liverpool star. However, their relationship eventually developed into one of teammates, with Ngumoha saying Salah helped and guided him significantly.

The teenager has already made history at Liverpool. He became the club’s youngest scorer when he scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner against Newcastle United in August 2025, aged just 16 years and 361 days. He later scored again in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Fulham at Anfield.

Ngumoha has also begun making his mark internationally with England. He made his competitive debut for the Three Lions during the 2-0 win over Czechia and was included among England’s youngest-ever competitive international players.

Reflecting on his rapid rise, Ngumoha said he always believed he would represent England at a young age. He also pointed to the examples of Jude Bellingham and Wayne Rooney as inspiration.

For Ngumoha, Salah’s advice could prove particularly important as he continues developing into one of Liverpool’s young attacking players.

Salah may have left Liverpool, but his influence on the next generation at Anfield appears to be continuing through the lessons he passed on to Ngumoha.
