Liverpool have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde on loan in January, with the Reds among several Premier League clubs approached.
Balde, 22, is a Spain international who was once viewed as Barcelona’s long-term solution at left-back. However, he has fallen down Hansi Flick’s pecking order and is now looking for regular first-team football.
Liverpool could be tempted, especially with Milos Kerkez yet to find consistent form and Kostas Tsimikas looking more like a short-term option.
A loan move would make sense. Balde has pace, aggression and attacking ability that could suit Andoni Iraola’s high-energy style, while giving Liverpool valuable competition at left-back.
It would also allow the Reds to assess him without committing to a permanent deal.
Kerkez should not be written off, but bringing in Balde could push both players to improve and give Iraola another attacking option.
If Liverpool can help Balde rediscover his best form, the January loan could prove to be a very smart move.
