Andoni Iraola has strongly hinted that Lewis Koumas could replace Alexander Isak in Liverpool’s crucial clash against Manchester City on Sunday.

The Reds will be without Isak, Cody Gakpo and Hugo Ekitike due to injuries, leaving Iraola with limited attacking options ahead of the high-stakes encounter.

Victor Munoz, Bradley Barcola and Federico Chiesa could provide alternatives, but Iraola’s latest comments suggest Koumas is the leading candidate to start as the central striker.

“We don’t have Hugo Ekitike available, and maybe we will recover Chiesa, but he hasn’t played any minutes. A No. 9, we only have Koumas right now, but we have some options, wingers who have played up front,” Iraola explained.

Koumas’ ability to press aggressively from the front makes him a potential fit for Iraola’s system.

After gaining valuable minutes during the international break, the young forward could now be handed a major opportunity against Pep Guardiola’s side.
