Andoni Iraola has an unusual approach to addressing his Liverpool players after matches, reportedly waiting 24 hours before delivering his assessment to allow emotions to settle.
However, the method faces a major test following Liverpool’s disappointing 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.
The Reds competed well for an hour before Ryan Gravenberch was sent off for a second yellow card. Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki then scored as City took full advantage of their numerical superiority.
Despite the heavy defeat, Iraola praised his players’ work rate and performance before the red card, admitting that Liverpool struggled after going down to 10 men.
With Champions League action against LASK coming up, followed by a difficult Premier League trip to Brentford, Iraola must quickly help his team recover from the setback.
