Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has urged Andoni Iraola to drop Florian Wirtz after the Reds’ disappointing 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at Anfield.

Carragher criticised the £116.5 million signing for failing to make an impact, arguing that Lewis Koumas and Victor Munoz performed better than Liverpool’s expensive attacking stars.

The former defender also questioned why Wirtz should start ahead of Ryan Gravenberch, who was sent off during the defeat. He believes the German has had enough time to prove himself after featuring in around 50–60 games for Liverpool.

Carragher added that Wirtz currently offers little goal threat and must improve significantly to justify his place in the starting XI.

With Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo injured and Gravenberch facing suspension, Iraola now faces a difficult selection decision as Liverpool look to bounce back against LASK.
